Most stock automatic transmissions won't downshift into low gear above 15 mph, and automatically upshift at a predetermined speed no matter what gear you're in. With the Transpak, you can downshift at any speed, and you can hold the transmission in first gear to any speed that you want! This is an asset when you've got a modified engine, and you want additional RPMs, or you're towing a trailer or driving heavy loads downhill.
Stage 1. Heavy Duty is for street rods, normal passenger vehicles or other heavy duty use. Firmer shift feel but not harsh. Improves transmission performance and life dramatically without loss of comfort and offers normal automatic operation when in Drive. Stage 2 is for Hi-Performance street use.
Essentially the same as Heavy Duty mode except shifts are much quicker. Retains full automatic features and standard shift points with selector in Drive. I don't know why I didn't think to look at instructions.
I guess I was expecting maybe a new or larger hole drilled here and there. I have a donor trans but it is a B. Sounds like I need to get ready for my ATF shower. Atwater Mike likes this. Should be the same. There were some minor changes over the years, but as long as your transmission isn't a "late model" it should be fine. Joined: Oct 18, Posts: 3, Profile Page. I don't know anything about your car, horsepower, converter ect.
Was the trans rebuilt for racing with "the good stuff"? Why not just change the trans? Maybe put a shift kit is a stock trans. That way if you go back to race car you have it, not just a bunch of parts laying around someplace.

Something that you may consider is an Autostick valve body, I like the original Pontiac units but you can buy a kit with the instructions new and it gives you the best of both worlds.
You know 'Beaner I like that, it may be a good way to go. I think I saw that valve body listed in the Summit catalog last night. Is there a better source for that stuff? I hate to cannibalize my other TH but I will if I have to. Ok so Summit has a valve body that should work. The instructions that Jim posted list a modified governor in the parts list. Does anyone know what they do to the governor when converting to manual?
Is it reversible or will I need to flat out replace it? Probably missing the springs, or has a ground off land on the spool valve, or something simple like that. You're reading my mind. I got out my book to study the governor function and decided to pull the stocker out and put them side by side.
Thanks guys for the input, I'll let you know how it turns out. I would just put a stock valve body in it, and do some home brew shift kit tricks to it But I'm a cheapskate. Don't tempt me I just finished reading all that stuff and you're right, I should do it myself. But then who's gonna keep the aftermarket industries afloat? Hmm, valve body or new weed whacker? The reverse valve body is set up in such a way, as to not let the driver over shift into neutral or reverse at the top end of the track.
They are a blast to drive if you want to shift the tans all the time, but remember, you loose the drive feature of the transmission, MANUAL valve body and can't start in third anymore. Nov 28, 4. It would also downshift. It's been 15 years since trans was built so I don't remember what kinda valve body kit it has. I loved mine it's out of the car now for the ls-4l80e swap, been debating running the though. Nov 30, 6. Messages: 14, Likes Received: 9.
